Career Advice
Step 3 – Pursue your career path by connecting to people: ‘ Work your network’
Now you have figured out what you are passionate about and what kind of job you are after. It’s time for some real action: networking is one of the most important tools to get you down the right track. Always let people know what you most like about your job and be good at it. You will notice that at some stage people will remember this and might even come up with a suitable job for you, either at their own company or via ‘someone who knows someone’: The best jobs don’t get advertised and the best people don’t look for jobs, they get asked for jobs.
How to become a networking master?
If you are not a natural born networker, get your networking skills up to scratch. An easy way to start is to get connected via LinkedIn (read more about improving your LinkedIn profile and making the most of LinkedIn here). However, virtual connections are not as powerful as face-to-face connections (or what about your family and friends?).Randomly connecting with people online will just annoy them. It’s better to connect with people offline at networking events or at company functions and get connected online afterwards. In the long run, you will find that your connections will have more ‘quality’. And more importantly ‘stay’ connected. Not just talk to people when you need something. Discover the magic of asking a simple question such as ‘How are you?’ every now and then.
